Summer is a great time for some to head out and enjoy the sun, but for babies, it may be wise to stay indoors throughout the season as the scorching sun and warm weather may be detrimental to your baby. Here are tips to keep your baby comfortable in summer!
A dehydrated infant does not have adequate fluids in his or her body. This can happen if your infant drinks less than he or she loses. Dehydration can be treatable but can also be life-threatening. Dehydration in infants is dangerous so you should make sure your baby is adequately hydrated at all times.
Here are some red flags to be aware of:
During summer, dress your infant in loose-fitting, lightweight clothing for indoors, preferably made of a natural fiber such as cotton. They also absorb more effectively than synthetic materials. Dress your baby lightly and in light-colored clothing when going outside. A light-colored long-sleeved shirt, long pants, and a wide-brimmed hat to screen a baby's face are recommended depending on how hot it is outside. Though it may appear to be excessive, exposing your baby's skin to the scorching outdoors can result in unpleasant sunburn or heatstroke.
Keep Them Hydrated
Babies should drink at least 50 percent more than usual throughout the summer. Whether you're breastfeeding or using a formula, make sure your baby has enough to drink.
