A Guide To Soothing Your Crying Baby
Published on Jun 5, 2023.
We all know that babies cry a lot, especially in their first six weeks of life. However, this may not be reassuring to new parents who are kept up all night by their baby’s crying. Keep in mind that babies cry simply because they have no other way to communicate with you, and this does not mean you have done something wrong. In this article, we share with you some ways of soothing a crying baby.
Most of the time, taking care of the baby’s needs is enough to get them to stop crying. Other times, the crying may go on for longer.
If that option isn’t open to you, place your baby in an empty crib, making sure there are no stuffed toys or loose blankets around. Close the door for 10 minutes and let them cry it out while you do something to calm yourself down. If the crying still doesn’t stop and is getting worrying, call the doctor.
Reasons Babies Cry
There are many reasons babies cry, and this can be your first cue that something needs to be done. Some babies may cry more than others. Below are some common reasons babies cry:- Their diaper needs changing
- They are tired or hungry
- They need to be burped
- They are overstimulated
- It is too hot or cold
- … and more!

How to Soothe Crying Babies
While you may leave your baby to cry it out sometimes, remember that you can never “spoil” a crying baby with too much attention. Below are some ways you can soothe a crying baby:- Walk up and down while carrying a baby and gently patting their back
- Sing or talk to your baby in a soft and calm voice
- Hold your baby close to you while taking deep, collected breaths
- Put your baby in an infant car seat and go for a drive – the vibration and movement can help to calm them down. Alternatively, you may wish to put them in a vibrating seat to achieve the same effect.
- Place baby on their tummy across your lap and rub their back
What to Do When The Crying Won’t Stop
Despite your best efforts, sometimes the crying just won’t stop. During these instances, calming down may be easier said than done, but it’s important that you do so in order to prevent harming both yourself and your baby unintentionally. If necessary, phone a trusted friend or relative and get them to come over and help you out.If that option isn’t open to you, place your baby in an empty crib, making sure there are no stuffed toys or loose blankets around.
